I agree re the metafiction comment above. If it's like Pirandello's, Six Characters in Search of an Author, I would start with information about the author. Author Robin Love tries to craft a love story for himself, but his characters get in the way? That's lame, I know, but I'd rather see introduction of the main character first. Because the initial story sounds so compelling, hearing about the author detracts from my attention, or at least throws me. You're writing in third person, not 2nd. Just say 'a' mysterious author.
